Ten Commandments #4 Remember The Sabbath Day And Keep It Holy Craft And Snack

Third Commandment Craft And Snack Idea
 Exodus 20:8  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

The kids are still learning their Ten Commandments and we are on the 4th commandment now. So I let the kids make a craft for the 4th commandment. "Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy. Exodus 20:8"  They built a church house out of popsicle sticks on construction paper and glued them on. They glued the words down in the middle of the house. 

We handed out church house snacks to them that

 were built out of Vanilla Sugar Wafers.

President's Day Sunday School Lesson

1 Timothy 2:1  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

1 Timothy 2:2  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

The Bible gives some rules for choosing someone as a leader whether it is for a church or a nation.  The pastor is the leader of the church. The president is the leader of the United States.   The people choose a president, because they believe he will be wise and honest.  George Washington was chosen as the first President of the United States because he was famous for being honest.   When leaders do not live by God’s rules, do they make good leaders?  When King Saul did not live the way God wanted, God no longer blessed him.  1 Samuel 13:14. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him [to be] captain over his people, because thou hast not kept [that] which the LORD commanded thee. 

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People see how a person looks and acts.  God looks at the heart and He judges a person’s faith and character. Those are the two traits that God looks for when searching for someone after His own heart. Aren’t those the traits that we should be looking for in choosing our leaders?

The Bible is pretty clear on what we should look for in our leaders, whether it is in church, for our nation or in our every day life.

1 Timothy 3:1-4  This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.  2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
Titus 1: 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;*

*Filthy lucre refers to becoming wealthy through greed, harming others, or immoral or dishonest means.

President’s Day Coin Activity

Thin printer paper

Coins

Crayons, pencils or colored pencils.

Place a coin on a hard surface. Turn the coin so the picture of a president is facing upward and cover it with the paper. Then rub the sharpened side of a crayon, pencil or colored pencil over the hidden coin to make a coin rubbing. The image of the president will  appear on the paper.
While the children are working, discuss what traits made the presidents on the coin a good leader.  Ask if they think that is how God wanted a leader to act.
Abraham Lincoln- Penny (hard work and fairness)
Thomas Jefferson-Nickel (freedom lover, generous)
Franklin Delano Roosevelt-Dime ( Determination, did not let polio stop him, helped the disadvantaged and poor)
George Washington- Quarter (Honesty and courage.)

Abraham Lincoln Snack Holder

 

Cover a cardboard toilet roll with black construction paper.  Cut a circle that is about an inch wider in diameter than the toilet roll.  Glue that to the bottom.  Fill with marshmallow stars or with star shaped cereal.

I thought I would take a picture of what my husband found when he was cutting his tree slices. He found a tree that had the shape of a heart in the middle. I thought this was pretty neat! I have never seen one of these before! Just thought I would share it. I'm sorry that the lighting quality is not very good on these.

Valentine Heart Bulletin Board For Children's Church

Valentine Heart Bulletin Board Idea 

For Children's Church

Supplies:
Paper Plate (for each child)
2 Pieces of Colored Construction Paper (for each child- 1 for arms and legs and 1 for bible)
Scissors
Tape
Sticker Eyes
Black Marker
Crayons or Markers
White Pipe Cleaners (To stick in the top of the heart's head for antennas) 

Take your paper plate and fold it in half. Cut a heart shape out using regular scissors or you can use decorative cutting scissors.

 Let the kids color their paper plate heart any color they want and offer them matching construction paper to go with their heart for the legs and arms. 

Have them fold the construction paper in half long ways and fold again. This will make creases in the paper for them to cut on. Have them cut four strips out. Have them take the strips and fold it back and forth accordion style to make ridges in it. Tape the arms and legs to the paper plate heart. Let the kids add sticker eyes and draw a mouth and eyebrows on. 

You could have them take a pipe cleaner and cut it in half and twist it around their finger to make it curly and then poke the ends of it in the top of the heart's head for antennas.

 Make a small bible from construction paper that is a different color than the arms and legs and cut a square out. Fold in half and let them write BIBLE on the front of it and something on the inside.

Once the kids are done staple all their hearts onto your bulletin board. This would be great for Valentine's Day or for a lesson on loving Jesus.

Death And Life Are In The Power Of The Tongue Paper Plate Craft For Sunday School- Proverbs 18:21

 Proverbs 18:21 Paper Plate Craft

Proverbs 18:21-  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: 

and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. 

You could do a paper plate craft for Proverbs 18:21 by letting the kids draw a face on the front of it and coloring some hair at the top of the paper plate. Have the kids cut a slit in the paper plate to slide a tongue through made from red felt.  

Have them cut slits in the top of the paper plate and curl them a little bit to make it look more like hair. Write the scripture on the face like you see in the picture. Add some goggle eyes and your done!
