The Ten Plagues of Egypt Activity

Rain in a Jar Activity
For the 10 Plagues of Egypt-Plague 7 Hail
(Do this one as a demonstration)

  • Jar with metal lid
  • Cup of boiling water
  • Hammer and nail
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt

Use the hammer and nail to make 5 or 6 little indentions (not holes) on the inside of the metal lid.  Pour the boiling water into the jar. Place the metal lid upside down on top of the jar, completely covering the mouth of the jar. Let the steam from the boiling water collect on the lid for a minute.  Next, have a child place three or four ice cubes into the lid. Add a little bit of cold water and a dash of salt and stir. Make sure the mouth of the jar remains completely covered by the lid so the steam cannot escape.   Watch carefully.  In a few minutes, you will see drops of water falling like rain into the jar.
To demonstrate the damage from hail, let students drop golf balls onto an inverted disposable aluminum pie pan.  Placing the pan in a large box keeps the golf balls from scattering all over the room.

Make a Rain Gauge

  • Jar
  • Ruler
  • Permanent marker

Use a tall cylinder-shaped jar or a square container with straight sides for your gauge. Measure and mark inch and half-inch marks on the side of the jar or container, measuring from the bottom up. Place the gauge outside in an open area.

Exodus 9:18  Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.

Heart Angels

Heart Angels

Craft foam with peel off backing
Scissors
Larger heart pattern (cut 1)
Smaller heat pattern (cut 2)
Circle pattern (cut 1)
Tissue paper
Pipe stem cleaner
Tape

Trace heart patterns onto the back of craft foam and cut them out.  Peel the backing completely off the smaller hearts.  Leave the backing on the larger heart. Cut a circle for the head.  Peel the bottom half of the backing from the circle.  Attach this to the pointed end of the larger heart.  Place the points of the smaller hearts on the back and to the sides of the larger heart with the sticky side facing upward to make the wings.  (See photo)  Tear the tissue into small pieces and stick them to the top side of the wings to give a feathery look.  Fashion a halo from a pipe stem cleaner and tape it to the back of the head.

1 Corinthians 13:1- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Heart Rods

Heart Rods
  • Pretzel rods
  • Almond bark (or chocolate bark)
  • Peanut butter (optional)
  • Heart sprinkles
  • Plastic wrap
  • Ribbon

Put the almond bark in a glass jar.  Melt the almond bark in the jar in a microwave oven.  Stir in one heaping tablespoon of peanut butter for each cup of melted almond bark.  Dip one end of the pretzel rod in the almond bark mixture.  Let the excess drip back into the jar.  (Tilt the jar to one side to cover more of the pretzel.) Leave one end uncoated to make it less messy to eat. Drop sprinkles onto the coated pretzel rods.  Place on wax paper to cool.  Cover with plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon.

To use up any left over almond bark, drop a teaspoon of the mixture into a cupcake holder.  Place three peanut butter filled pretzel squares on top.  Spoon more almond bark over these and add two more pretzel squares.  Top with more almond bark.  Let set.
Parents show their love for their children by correcting their behavior.

Proverbs 13:24-He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
If you spare the rod, you spoil the child! ☺
