The Wise Man Built His House Upon The Rock Handprint Craft

The Wise Man Built His House Upon The Rock and
The Foolish Man Built His Upon The Sand
Handprint Craft- Saltdough

Saltdough Recipe
  • 2 Cups of Flour
  • 1/2 Cup of Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Cold Water
Mix it up and hand out handfuls to each child on a paper plate. Let them smash the dough down and put their handprint in the dough. Add some small rocks (from walmart) in the dough. When this dries it will be the child's handprint in the dough. This represents the child building his house upon the rock.

Matthew 7:24  Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Matthew 7:25  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

Matthew 7:26  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

Matthew 7:27  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

The importunate widow woman and the unjust judge snack for kids

I was trying to come up with a snack to go with our lesson on the parable of the widow woman and the unjust judge, and was having a really hard time. I was racking my brain trying to come up with a snack that looked like a gavel. I found a gavel cookie cutter online but that didn't do me any good cause I didn't have one. Wish I would have had one then I would have made gavel cookies for the kids.

I decided to make up some little sandwich bags and filled it with some chocolate animal cookies. (Yes, I realize chocolate animal cookies has NOTHING to do with the unjust judge and widow woman lol) I bought some Avery 75 count 1" x 3" Removable Label Pad. I added a label to the front each sandwich bag. I just drew a little gavel on the front and wrote "Luke 18:1-8 The widow woman and the Unjust Judge. You might also know it as "The importunate woman and the unjust judge".

You could also make small gavels using pretzel sticks and snicker bars. Just shove a pretzel stick into the side of a snickers bar. That's it! You could make up a whole bunch and lay them all out on a tray. Lay a notecard with the words, "Luke 18:1-8 The widow woman and the unjust judge" written on it down on the tray with the little gavels you made up.

Want a larger snack? You could also make a large gavel snack by taking a large pretzel rod and shove it through a large marshmallow. Add a cookie to each side of the marshmallow using frosting as glue. Then dip the end of the gavel into melted chocolate. You could cover the whole thing in chocolate if you want. This is totally up to you.

Make a gavel craft to go along with it.
Try printing this gavel out and glue down on construction paper. Comes in black and white so the kids can color it first. And we have a colored one that you can print out. This is a picture of the finished craft that one of the kids in my class did.

Luke 18:1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Luke 18:2  Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

Luke 18:3  And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

Luke 18:4  And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

Luke 18:5  Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

Luke 18:6  And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

Luke 18:7  And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Luke 18:8  I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Here is a printable template of just the scripture.

Valentine's Day Lunch Bag For Kids

Valentine's Day Lunch Bag For Kids
This is an easy Valentine's Day candy bag that you can make up for your child. Or better yet, let your child make one up and take to their teacher at school. Just fill the bag full of candy and treats. Let them write Happy Valentine's Day on the bottom of the bag if they want. You could leave all the hair, eyes and mouth off and it would still be a cute little Valentine's Day bag for the kids. If you are a teacher then make some up for all the kids in your class. (Just leave it plain and staple the template to the top, less work that way)

We have a template for the Sunday school teachers too! It say's Jesus Loves You on it.

1 Sucker
2 Large Google Eyes (colored or black and white)
Ribbon or Yarn
Tape
Red Pipe Cleaner
Scissors
Valentine Template  (4 templates to choose from)
White or Brown Lunch bag

Just print the Valentine Template out. Pick which one you need. There are two different templates. One has 1 template to make 1 bag. The other has 2 templates to make 2 bags.

If you know how to use the Paint program on your computer try uploading the Valentine Template into PAINT and then typing the child's name or teacher's name on the front. If you do not know how to do that then just write their name using a pen or sharpie maker.

Print the template out and cut it out. Fold the bag down and then fold the template over the folded over bag. Staple this on each side. Tape a sucker or another piece of candy to the side of the bag. Tape on some yarn or curly ribbon for hair. Tape on your eyes and then tape on a red pipe cleaner for the mouth. These make perfect little gift bags for kids.

What should you put in the bag:
Try filling a large ziplock bag with suckers, candy bars, smarties, or any other candy you can think of. Add small stickers, toys, pencils, erasers, little stamps, gum, or anything cheap you can find online or at walmart.

The Parable of the wise man built his house upon the rock

This is an easy object lesson for the kids to watch. Grab yourself two containers. Fill one up with sand and the other with a large rock. Take two small plastic cups and draw two windows and a door on it. Fold a notecard in half and tape on top of cup for the roof. Add a house to the dirt container and one to the rock container.

Write on a notecard that says, "The foolish man built his house upon the sand. Matt 7:26-27 on it. Then tape it to the front of the container that is filled with sand.

Write on another notecard that says, "The wise man built his house upon the rock. Matt 7:24-25 on it. Then tape it to the front of the container that is filled with the rock.

Grab a large pitcher of water and begin to pour it in the container that has sand. I scattered a few small seashells on top of the dirt. As you pour it in this tell the kids how this is representing the things that are coming against a person that is built on sand. When the winds blow and the rain pours is persecutions, tribulations, and trials. They are not founded on Jesus and didn't build their foundation on the word of God so they will not stand. They will be not able to handle the storm when it hits.

Now do the same with the house that is on the rock. Pour the water in. Notice how the rock does not move at all. It does not even phase it. The rock is firm and holds in place, because it is sturdy enough to hold the house. Jesus is like the rock. When we are built upon the Lord we will be able to withstand the storm when it hits. We will not be moved. No matter how hard the wind blows or how much it rains the house will not fall.

We need to make sure our lives are grounded in God. Make sure you are staying in his word, and talking to him everyday. It's about having a relationship with him. He wants you to be his friend. He wants us to know him one on one. That is what we should be seeking after.

A pure heart that will go after him all the way. Even the Bible say's that there will be people that will say they rebuked demons out of people, prophesied in his name, and did mighty works in his name but he will tell them, "Depart from you workers of iniquity I never knew you."

Notice the part where it says I NEVER KNEW YOU. So many people say they know God but they don't talk to him like a friend. God has to know you like you would a friend. It is a close and personal walk with Jesus Christ that makes you a friend of God. I want to be a friend of God.

You might want to ask yourself a question. "Do I really know God? Do I really REALLY KNOW HIM?

If not then it's NEVER to late to start! He loves you.

Print this sheet that has the scripture on it and hand out to the kids. Have the copy the words down on another piece of paper.

Luke 6:44 Craft

Pick out which template you need. Templates come with and without words. If you choose the black and white one then have the kids use crayons, markers to color it first. Then have the kids cut out all the pieces and glue down on construction paper. You could print the colored one out if the kids do not like to color.

Use this activity craft sheet to go along when teaching on Luke 6:44.

Luke 6:43  For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Luke 6:44  For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

Luke 6:45  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
