Paper Plate Salt Art

Paper Plate Salt Art

Mark 9:50  Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Food coloring
  • Paint brushes
  • Pencil
  • Salt
  • Unwaxed paper plates
  • Zip lock baggies

Pour half a cup of salt into four different baggies.  Put a few drops of one color of food coloring in the first bag.  Seal the baggie and gently shake to mix the coloring throughout the salt.  Repeat the process with a different color in the other three bags.

Give each child a paper plate and a pencil.  Have them draw a picture that has large open spaces.

Thin the glue with a little water.  Have the child paint all the spaces that will be the same color with glue.  Let the glue dry for a minute.  Sprinkle on the first color of salt.  After a couple of minutes shake off the excess into a trash container.  Now, you are ready to do the next color.  Repeat the process until the picture is done.

For those students who need a little help with the drawing, you could have some shapes available for them to trace.
